The MOVE Conference 2017 has been the opportunity for NECSTouR to transmit what  its members are doing for the development of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Tourism, sharing and influencing regional policies when it comes to implementation to SDGs.

The 5th International Conference on the Subnational Measurement and Economic Analysis of Tourism - MOVE 2017 - has been organised in Pamplona (Navarra), from the 22nd to the 24th of  November by the Government of Navarra, in2Destination, INROUTE and UNWTO.
The title of this year was "Smart and Sustainable Urban and Rural Tourism.

"The principles that NECSTouR wants to instill within the EU policies for tourism - as stated by Ms Ana Moniche from the Region of Andalusia during her intervention - are those related with Sustainable and Competitive Tourism and those explicitly included by the UN in the Agenda 2030 and in its SDGs."

NECSTouR is developing quite a long list of initiatives in this sense. During her presentation, Ms Moncihe reminded the UNWTo conference about Tourism and the so-called "sharing economy (Berlin, 9 March 2017), NECSTouR Public Thematic Conference on "International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development Smart Tourism Destinations’ contribution for the Planet and its People" (Seville, 30 March 2017), the Side Event on "European Union Tourism Committed to Blue Growth" at the UN Oceans Conference (New York, 8 June 2017),  the 6th UNWTO International Conference on Tourism Statistics (Manila, 21-23 June),  the 2nd UNWTO Global Conference on Talent Development in Tourism: Strategies for Competitive Destinations (Marbella, 8-10 October 2017).
All that events has been the opportunity for NECSTouR to present its point of view on the SDGs and to increase the international awarness about that.

NECSTouR is also proud to be partner of the MITOMED+ Project, wich is developng and testing a proper set of indicators in order to enhance sustainable development policies for more efficient valorisation of natural resources and cultural heritage in coastal and adjacent maritime areas of a sustainable and responsible coastal and maritime tourism in the MED Area.

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR), NECSTouR and DG GROW joined forces for an innovative partnership and funding mechanisms reinforcing the regional innovation capacity and strengthening cooperation between EU regions to facilitate EU- wide and interregional public-private investments to support innovation projects in tourism.
This is another fundamental initiative which has been presented at the MOVE, since the objective is to overcome the challenges that regional tourism authorities and tourism SMEs face when financing innovation in tourism by the means of the EU instruments.
