To ensure Sustainable Tourism, the CoR recommends NEZEH's Toolkit

Aug 28, 2017

The Official Journal of the European Union recently published the Opinion of the European Committee of the Regions: "Tourism as a driving force for regional cooperation across the EU".

This document has been presented by the rapporteur Hans-Peter Wagner (AT/EPP), Mayor of Breitenwang.

In the opinion, the European Committee of the Regions "invites tourist regions, in the light of climate change, to diversify their economic focus" and recommends "to invest together with the sector in climate-friendly projects, using tools such as the (...) Nearly Zero Energy Hotels (neZEH) (article 35).

The NEZEH toolkit is the main outcome of NEZEH Project, aimed on accelerating the rate of refurbishment of existing buildings into Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB).

NECSTouR was partner of this project, together with the UWTO and other relevant Tourism Stakeholders and consequently warmly welcome this new recommendation, coming from a very authoritative institution such as the European Committee of the Regions and it is very thankful to Mr Wagner for accepting to insert this amendment on NEZEH proposed by its Permanent Secretariat.

Moreover, it hopes that the NEZEH toolkit will support more and more the SMEs Hotels in the process of refurbishment of existing buildings into Nearly Zero Energy Buildings.
