Interested in working with us?

NECSTouR, the Network of European Regions for Sustainable and Competitive Tourism, is a Brussels-based non-profit association that gathers more than 45 European regional tourism authorities and 30 associated members (universities, research institutes, representatives of tourism enterprises and sustainable tourism associations). We empower destinations to face the challenges to achieve a smarter and more sustainable tourism governance by sharing and deploying best practice solutions with our members and our key partners across Europe.

More concretely, we help our members by

  • enabling access to European funding opportunities to deploy sustainable tourism-related projects;
  • running the knowledge hub by gathering good practices in tourism measurability and climate action;
  • representing the regional tourism authorities' interests in the EU arena.

We are looking for a new Managing Director as part of our new strategy to cater to the new challenges of our members' regions. As the strategy will establish a new direction for the network, we are restructuring our Brussels team with the addition of a Managing Director to guide this transition. The person in this position will need to be in charge of NECSTouR's operational organisation and will work hand in hand with the Strategy and Program Director, who is setting out the strategic lines and supporting the team on matters of content.

Tasks and responsibilities

Among others, the tasks of the Managing Director will consist in:

  • operationalising the strategy throughout the organisation: planning, purchasing, implementing, evaluating e.g. new tools, outsourcing partners, freelancers, infrastructure…
  • coordinating projects + following up the project management (+ project risk management: predict time delays, budget exceeding)
  • setting clear goals for and following up membership development + communication following the defined strategy
  • organising the board meetings/general assemblies: defining content (with director strategy), dates, and structure; preparation follow-up, presentation, evaluation + delegation of event management tasks
  • being responsible for NECSTouR’s financial management (P&L, accounts receivable, accounts payable, year-end close with the support of the external accountant…)
  • taking up the role of HR-responsible and talent management: inflow – throughflow – outflow of employees, planning the team(s), keeping the team on track, developing employees
  • Representing the network to the European Institutions and international partnerships in ‘tandem’ with the ‘Strategy & Program Director’.

Profile and skills

The new Managing Director needs to have the following skills and understanding:

  • Master's level thinking and working ability
  • A good project management experience (5-10y)
  • Demonstrable experience as a manager and team leader (5-10y) in different aspects of running an organisation: finance, HR, overall planning and organisation, people management, negotiations, communication, risk management
  • Knowledge of European Funding mechanisms and decision-making processes is an advantage; awareness of the European tourism agenda and sustainable tourism development is also valued
  • Excellent English language skills are required; proficiency in other European languages is a plus

What we can offer:

  • A good monthly fee according to our recently updated salary strategy
  • Meal vouchers, eco vouchers, sports and culture vouchers
  • A conveniently located workplace within a 2-minute walk from Brussels Central Station
  • 25 well-deserved days of annual leave and each 3-5 years an extra seniority day
