A Workshop in Brussels Between Ecorys and Digitalisation and Safety in Tourism Partners on Smart Tourism Policies

The workshop was included in a two-days partnership meeting in Brussels of the “Digitalisation and Safety in Tourism” S3 Platform.

The objective of the workshop was to have the regions input on the “Study on the Contribution of Tourism to Local and Regional Development”. A study conducted by Ecorys on behalf of the European Commission to provide an overview of how and to what extent tourism activities have been supported by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) in the period 2012-2018.

The 18th European Tourism Forum was held in Helsinki under the auspices of the Finnish Presidency of the European Union.

Highlights of the session “How can ESIF tourism projects support sustainable regional development? Exploring best practice across the EU”

 

How can ESIF tourism projects support sustainable regional development? Exploring best practice across the EU” was the session organized in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities, by the DG GROW- Tourism Unit and ECORYS to present the first findings of the study the consultancy firm is developing for the European Commission, to understand the contribution of ESIF-supported tourism projects to local and regional development.

Main preliminary recommendations of the study:

NECSTouR is advocating for making Tourism more Visible in the next MFF 2021- 2027

 

As member of the Steering Group of the European Tourism Manifesto for Growth and Jobs, NECSTouR is participating to a joint lobbing action together with the European Travel Commission (ETC) and the European Cyclist Federation (ECF) to better position Tourism in the next Multi-Financial Framework (MFF).

 

Goal

Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU places higher Tourism in the EU Political Agenda

 

Tourism is a priority for this Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January-June 2019) , who is negotiating with the Member States in order to propose to the upcoming European Commission a new Communication on Tourism.

NECSTouR and the European Tourism Manifesto for Growth and Jobs are willing to strongly support this initiative.

Event

How can ESIF tourism projects support regional development? Exploring best practice across the EU

 

Tourism is a key driver of employment, competitiveness, and cohesion in the European Union. Considering its importance for the EU, there is a potential to further exploit it as a tool for local, rural and regional development, as well as urban regeneration. The aim of the workshop will be to discuss and promote good practices in sustainable tourism projects, which have been financed by the ESIF. Furthermore, it will provide a platform for knowledge exchange and joint learning on the contribution of ESIF-supported tourism projects to local and regional development.
