A European network of engaged port cities and territories, around a common sustainable development model

Odyssea Tourism and Blue Growth is a European network of engaged port cities and territories, around the promotion of Blue Tourism and around a common sustainable development model : a concrete way to promote together original eco-touristist offers that guarantee more attractivity for engaged maritime, river and lake destinations, a best competitiveness and jobs creation.

Odyssea Tourism and Blue Growth model aims to facilitate tourist touring, ecomobility along the blue routes and green routes along water. It organizes cultural and economic link between ports and their territories. For port cities, river halts, it’s a territorial model that brings a real added-value to their current offers facilitating creation of new exemplary services, offers and hospitality.

Odyssea Tourism and Blue Growth allows to give a new role to marinas, port cities and territories making them major actors of Blue tourism. A strategic operation that makes of our ports the gateway to the territories, for a better spread of tourist flows to the hinterland, and the windows of our destinations.

Odyssea model was officially recognized as a good practice of original maritime and coastal tourism in the Communication of the European Commission in February 2014, "A European strategy for more growth and jobs in coastal and maritime tourism" (COM (2014) 86 Final).

The report of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on Cultural Routes and Itineraries, published in 2016, explains how cultural routes can be, in a strategy of structuring and promotion, a real innovative medium for sustainable, cultural and economic development of the destinations, and quotes Odyssea model.

European Grouping Odyssea Tourism and Blue Growth is Associate Member of NECSTouR, and Affiliate Member of the World Tourism Organization.

Blue growth 2014-2020: Innovative investments and new technologies for "blue ways" port destinations development

Period and Funding: Odyssea Blue Growth Strategy considers that innovation and new technologies are fundamental to promote the virtuous circle of sustainable development for Coastline Tourism and Yachting in Europe. The application of the ICT to various spaces of high and low density, connecting the territories of the maritime and river littoral to the back country, creates synergies, inducing an added-value for the project.
